Conservation scientist Sanjay Gubbi and forest department employee Benny Maurius were called into the help capture it, but it took until 5pm to successfully administer tranquillisers.

They managed to catch the animal at around 8.15pm when the sedation finally kicked in.

The Indian Express reports that senior police official S Boralingaiah told reporters: "It was a long struggle to capture the leopard. Although it was injected with tranquilisers it could be captured only around 20.15 local time when the medication took full effect."

In the meantime, the animal managed to injure six people, and one of the attacks was caught on camera in the swimming pool area.

The leopard was eventually moved to a national park and the six injured people, including a TV cameraman, were treated for minor injuries.

According to the BBC, conservationists warn that similar incidents are likely to increase as humans encroach on the leopards' natural forest habitat.
