Tina Hobley exits The Jump after dislocating elbow and fracturing arm

Updated

Holby City actress Tina Hobley has pulled out of winter sports show The Jump after dislocating her elbow and fracturing her arm in two places, making her the first celebrity to leave through injury.

The accident happened when the 44-year-old became distracted while practising a jump after crew from the show failed to vacate the landing area.

She tweeted a picture of her arm in a cast and wrote: "When you're sent to jump and find a man in your landing area - dislocated elbow, two fractures, so sad!"

She will be replaced by former The Wanted singer Tom Parker.

Parker has been practising with the celebrities in Austria as the show's stand-by contestant but he is also suffering with an injury.

The singer posted a photo last Friday of his bandaged hand after he tore tendons in his wrist during a tumble on the slopes.

Channel 4 has issued an apology for Hobley's injury and said it will be putting extra procedures in place to ensure the error does not happen again.

A spokeswoman said: "The Jump adheres to the strictest safety protocols to ensure that the health and safety of the competitors is always paramount.

"Tina's fall was caused by simple human error when members of the ground crew failed to clear the outrun.

"All those involved have been spoken to and extra procedures have now been put in place by the producers to ensure that this will not happen again.

"We're very sorry to lose Tina from the competition and wish her a very speedy recovery."

Hobley told The Mirror she was "frustrated" at having to leave the competition early.

She said: "I am in a lot of pain and I'm very upset to be leaving in these circumstances.

"This fall wasn't my fault and as I was doing so well in the competition, it's very frustrating.

"I've been invited back to compete next year and I really hope I can do that."

Hobley, who stars in Holby City as nurse Chrissie Williams, had already hurt her shoulder in the competition.

Her withdrawal is the latest injury sustained in the show, with Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington dislocating her shoulder and EastEnders actress Louisa Lytton hurting her hand during a jump.
