A 79-year-old Mercedes-Benz set a new record at the recent Arizona auction week, after selling for the incredible sum of $9.9million – that's £6.8million on this side of the Pond.

The 540K, which dates back to 1937, is one of only a handful of models still in existence. The vehicle is regarded as one of the finest interwar cars ever made.
