Plane makes emergency landing over flight attendant fist fight

A mid-air brawl between two flight attendants forced a Delta Air Lines plane from Los Angeles to Minneapolis to make an emergency landing on Friday.

The flight made an unscheduled landing in Salt Lake City.

According to The Aviation Herald, a passenger witnessed three cabin crew being sent off due to "bad behaviour".

In a letter of apology, the airline wrote: "Some of our team members did not display their best behaviour. We expect our flight crew to be nothing but courteous and professional at all times and what you experienced was far from that. I am sorry we didn't deliver on our brand promise for you today."

The aviation news website later learned that the two flight attendants were fighting over work issues and engaged in a fist fight. A third member of the cabin crew attempted to calm the pair down but was hit.

Following an 80-minute delay, the Boeing 757-200 continued to Minneapolis.

The Daily Mail reports that to reimburse passengers, SkyMiles members received miles while customers who are not SkyMiles members were given a travel voucher.

In 2012, an American Eagle flight from New York's JFK Airport was delayed for nearly four hours after two female flight attendants got into a heated argument.

The altercation became so serious that the cockpit crew made the decision to turn back to the gate after taxiing had started.

Passenger Dan Alexander told NBC News: "We were informed we were going back to the gate because the flight attendants couldn't work with each other.

"I find it hard to believe the flight attendants couldn't work with each other for an hour," he added, referring to the approximate flight time from New York to Washington.

Another traveller bemoaned the lack of "professionalism" while one called the fight "ridiculous".
