A 7.2ft sand tiger shark was filmed devouring a 3.9ft banded hound shark at an aquarium in South Korea.

The eight-year-old female shark spent 21 hours to complete her meal in what the COEX Aquarium has described as a "turf war".

Oh Tae-youp, the aquarium's public relations manager, told Reuters: "Sharks have their own territory. However, sometimes when they bump against each other, they bite out of astonishment.

"I think the shark swallowed the whole body, because they usually eat it all when they bite the head part."

The attack took place on Thursday evening and after 21 hours only the tip of the shark's tank mate was seen protruding from her mouth, where it will remain for up to five days.

Experts say she won't be able to digest her rival and will regurgitate his body within a week, Sky News reports.

In November 2014, a white tip reef shark was filmed being swallowed whole by a giant Moray eel.

Filmed by a diver, the incredible video shows the eel getting hold of the shark and holding it down as the tiny predator tries to wriggle away.

The eel manages to swallow three quarters of the shark with just its tail sticking out of its mouth. It swims around with the shark in its mouth for a few minutes before the shark surprises viewers by escaping from its mouth.

It may have lost out on its meal but the eel doesn't make a second attempt to eat the shark and the tiny shark casually swims close to the eel as if nothing happened.
