Shetland pony leads police on bizarre chase (video)

Police in Sussex were forced to chase a Shetland pony around a residential area in Crawley after the animal escapes from an unknown location.

A bizarre video showed the pony trotting through the housing estate as several police cars followed behind before attempting to corner and capture the four-legged creature.

The Week reports that it took four police cars to catch the pony after it meandered through Gatwick Road, Manor Road, London Road and Langley Drive.

Sussex Police said it was taken to a yard in Charlwood, where a local offered to take care of it temporarily.

A police spokesman said: "The pony is currently being kept at a private yard and remains the responsibility of Sussex Police until the owner is found."

Metro reports that the police contacted the RSPCA for help in tracking down the owner but as it is not an animal welfare issue they were unable to help.

Last week, an escaped Shetland caused chaos at Gloucestershire Airport when it was spotted on the runway.

The airport's operations director Darren Lewington told Horse and House: "We are the busiest general aviation airport in the country so there were lots of planes flying around."

It was eventually caught and handed back to its owners.
