"The lights went green but she got out the bus to talk to him and he ran off. I've never seen anything like it before in my life."

Paul later posted the picture on his Facebook page with the caption: "Forgot I snapped this p*****k on Friday!! £4 for a day ticket!!"

The man was surfing on the back of the 5A bus in Bournemouth, which is operated by Yellow Buses.

Jenni Wilkinson, head of marketing at Yellow Buses, said: "This behaviour is incredibly dangerous and could easily be fatal.

"It is also astonishingly stupid, not to mention illegal. When this came to our attention, we informed the police who are monitoring the situation.

"We would urge anyone who sees such anti-social and dangerous behaviour to call us and alert the police.

"It is not only putting the individual at great danger but other road users and pedestrians as well."
