This sheep got a lucky escape after reportedly being stuck on a ledge halfway mount Snowdonia in Wales for several days.

The footage shows the animal teetering on the edge of a sheer mountain drop that would have undoubtedly caused severe injury or death had the animal lost its footing.

Rescuers from the RSPCA lowered themselves more than 328 feet in the wind and rain to get to it.

When they reached the animal they strapped it into a harness to make the rescue possible.

The sheep was then released back onto flat land where it happily scampered away.

According to the Telegraph the sheep, which was 800m up the side of Tryfan Mountain, was spotted by locals who contacted the RSPCA.

RSPCA inspector Mike Pugh said: "Inspector Nayman Dunderdale and myself descended over 100 metres to reach the sheep on a ledge.

"The sheep was then lowered down the cliff to Inspector Armstrong who was waiting below. The sheep was uninjured but was very hungry.

"Temperatures dropped to below freezing, but the fact that we were caught up in a blizzard with the wind and rain meant that the successful outcome of the rescue was all the more rewarding."
