A man has died after falling from the rooftop terrace of a popular upmarket restaurant in London.

The 29-year-old became the sixth man to fall to his death from the same location in nine years.

Paramedics were called to the restaurant just after 4pm on Sunday, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, reports the Metro.

It is believed the man "jumped" from the 80ft roof garden viewing platform above Queen Victoria Street in the City.

One diner told the Evening Standard: "We were collecting our coats when a policeman came in and asked the girl on reception if he could speak to the manager.

"The manager came over and the officer asked her to step outside where he said someone had jumped off the roof.

"There was no fuss and the only reason we knew about it was because we happened to be standing by the door when the police officer came in. I doubt any other the other diners or people in the bar would have been aware.

"When we got down to street level there were paramedics surrounding the person and the road had been closed off. It's very sad."

Four people committed suicide at the venue between 2007 and 2012 and, last year, restaurant critic Wilkes McDermid, 39, jumped to his death from the same spot.

This was despite the fact that restaurant owners D&D London installed 6ft-high barriers to prevent people from falling back in 2013.

According to The Sun, a City of London police spokesman said: "We were called to an address in Poultry and 4.09pm yesterday to reports of a man having fallen from a building. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious."
