Girl falls through ice - watch what happens

If you ever needed proof that playing on ice was dangerous, this is it.

These teenagers were playing on a partially frozen lake in Southern California when the ice suddenly broke under one of the girls.

The film shows her losing her footing slightly shortly before she was sent plunging into the freezing water under the thin layer of ice.

Although you could be forgiven for thinking it's the height of summer given that most of the teenagers are wearing short-sleeved t-shirts, it's clearly very cold.

Luckily for the girl her quick thinking friend behind the camera urged the others to pull her out of the water as soon as she fell in.

The girl was fine soon after her friends yanked her out and only walked away with a few scratches.

It's not the only accident on ice this month. Two ice fisherman in Wyoming were lucky enough to escape when their truck fell through the ice last weekend at the Boysen Reservoir.

The pair were able to escape through the back window of the truck as it filled with water, the Casper Star Tribune reveals.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has published a list of guidelines on what you should do if you are unlucky enough to fall through ice.

The advice includes keeping your clothes on, turning back to where you came from and lying flat on the ice as soon as you are out and roll away from the hole. You can read the full list of advice online here.

But surely the best advice of all is not to go on ice in the first place.
