A stunning Mustique home, built for David Bowie, has been sold for £14 million. The five-bedroom mansion was designed by a Swedish architect in the 1980s, and intended to be a series of pavilions sitting around koi ponds and pools in a tropical garden. Although the property is now under offer, the estate agency photographs reveal an incredible home.

Bowie's dream home took five years and more than fourteen cargo containers of materials, and was finished in 1989. It's an Indonesian style hideaway, somewhat out of place on Mustique, but as Bowie pointed out in 1992, it was a fantasy property for a fantasy island.

Bowie tended to spend a few weeks over Christmas in the property, with a small group of friends and family. He actually sold the property to colourful publisher Felix Dennis, who owned it until he died in 2014. However, it still retains the whimsical design Bowie wanted for his island paradise.

The property has five bedroom suites - each with a private veranda leading to the pool.

The estate agent describes it as being idea 'For small children and big children alike' with a games room, stage area and wet bar.

There's also what is described as a 'Writer's Cottage', which is a self contained open-plan property within the grounds, and a separate 'Studio' - although Bowie once said it was too relaxing on the island to get much work done.

The interior design still contains elements of extravagant whimsy that put Bowie's stamp on the place in the 1980s - with stunning murals - including a jungle on the ceiling of one reception area, ornate columns and novel balustrades.

It is currently listed as 'under offer', although it's not known who has taken the property on.
