CCTV has captured the moment unwitting shoppers were hit by an avalanche of snow falling off shop roofs above them.

Footage, thought to have been shot in Turkey, shows a bit of snow start to fall before a huge mound rains down on the pedestrians below.

The video was uploaded to the LiveLeak site, but we first saw it at the Mirror.

At first it appears that one man is buried under the snow, and a crowd of people rush to his aid.

Some users praised the actions of the public, while others suggested there is no one stuck under the snow.

One LiveLeak user wrote: "In certain situations it still amazes me how quickly we humans jump to the rescue when we sense life is in danger."

Another said: "Well done the Turkish people, everyone jumped in to help."

However, one person pointed out that he believed nobody was buried under the snow, writing: "No one got buried. People just thought someone did. Slow mo you can see all escaped."

Another user agreed, commenting: "Nobody in that camera's view got buried. The one guy who came the closest jumped up and ran it off."

And someone just joked: "A snowflake falling from the sky is pleasant to behold, but I hate it when they all gang up on me at once."
