81-year-old woman shot dead at care home named as Rita King

An 81-year-old woman allegedly shot dead by a relative at a care home in Walton-on-the-Naze has been provisionally identified as Rita King, Essex Police said.

The victim was declared dead at the scene, at De La Mer House in Naze Park Road in the Essex town, at around 9am.

A man remains in custody on suspicion of murder. Police confirmed he is related to Ms King and was also a resident at the home.

A revolver has been recovered from the scene, murder probe detectives said.
