Boy, 7, dies in road accident involving three vehicles

A seven-year-old boy has been killed in a three car pile up in Northern Ireland.

Jackson Turner, a primary four pupil at Sunnylands Primary School in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim died several hours after the road accident in which a four-year-old girl was injured.

Police said the collision, involving two Nissan cars and a Citroen, occurred at Old Carrick Road, Newtownabbey at about 6.30pm on Saturday evening.

Seven other people were injured in total.

The PSNI said the boy was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital where he died several hours following the accident.

The driver of the car in which Jackson had been travelling in remains in hospital with serious injuries and the injured four-year-old girl is said to have suffered less injuries.

The PSNI said five people from the two other cars were also injured but none of them have been classed as life-threatening.

Officers in Newtownabbey are appealing for information about the collision and said they are keen to hear from anyone who saw the cars on the road, urging witnesses to contact them on the 101 number.

The road reopened after being closed for several hours.
