Complaint against Jeremy Vine over 'man flu' comments dismissed

A complaint against Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine over comments about "man flu" has been dismissed, the BBC said.

Vine was reported under the broadcaster's "equality and diversity" code by an offended listener after joking to a guest on his show that he had "man flu".

During a segment about Victorian ailments on his show on Monday, the 50-year-old commented to Dr Sarah Jarvis about his "ailment" while talking about whooping cough.

Vine, who appeared on this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing, asked the doctor about a persistent cough he had developed after falling ill a few days before, but his terminology was not to the liking of one listener.

In a since deleted tweet, Vine griped to his 447,000 followers about the complaint.

"Oh great, someone's reported me under the BBC equality and diversity code because I told @DrSarahJarvis yesterday I had man flu," he posted.

A BBC spokesperson confirmed a complaint had been received and said: "Jeremy was clearly making fun of himself, no BBC policies have been breached and the complaint has been dismissed."
