A Qatar Airways flight had to abandon a 100mph takeoff as media guests on board watched live on TV screens from inside the plane.

The incident, which no doubt left bosses red-faced, occurred on the runway at JFK Airport in New York on Thursday, reports the Mirror.

The trip was for employees and a few select guests for a marketing campaign and to launch the first A350 commercial flight from Qatar to the US.

Video captured by Zach Honig, editor-in-chief at The Points Guy, has now been shared online.

Zach tweeted also tweeted about the experience:

He wrote on his blog: "As you can see in the video, about 18 seconds after we began rolling down JFK's runway 22R, the aircraft self-aborted, bringing us from more than 100mph to a loud, screeching halt in roughly 15 seconds.

"For a plane of this size and weight, stopping that quickly required a lot of force.

"Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but some passengers (including myself) were quite shaken."

He added that he told the PR he wanted to get off the plane, but that didn't happen, explaining: "Qatar's Chief Commercial Officer, the highest ranking executive on the flight, came over to reassure us, explaining that an 'indicator' was responsible for the abrupt abort.

"As I understand it, for some reason the A350 decided that our 11,000-foot runway was too short to support the takeoff, and the plane applied the brakes at full force — all on its own.

"I was told that we would be taxiing to a different (less glitchy) runway, and would attempt another takeoff there. If that failed, we would be allowed to disembark. In other words, we were going to be taking off again whether we wanted to or not."

An hour and 40 minutes later the plane took off safely on its flight for Doha.
