Freebie Friday: Eat, drink, and be Chewie (or Luke Skywalker)

Updated

It's the season to be socialising. But when you're meeting up with friends and family for a drink or a meal, it's also the season when we spend far more than we ever intended to. This week, we have some freebies to help you out - from free kid's meals, to free drinks on the town - and free nibbles for when you're entertaining at home. There's even a Star Wars event, for those who prefer their socialising to come with light sabres and Lego.

Free Gordon Ramsay food
As restaurant freebies go, this has to be one of the poshest. The Gordon Ramsay Group of restaurants is offering free kids' meals when they eat with their parents around Christmas. They get up to three courses for every adult main meal you order. Given that tomato soup followed by sausages and mash, then ice cream at the maze Grill Mayfair would normally set you back £12.50, this is a brilliant freebie.

There are loads of restaurants participating, including Heddon Street Kitchen, maze Grills, York & Albany, London House, Bread Street Kitchen, maze Grill Mayfair and the Union Street Café. A full list of menus, the dates when the deal is running, and participating restaurants, is available on the website.

Free crisps
There's a free bag of Chef's Signature Kettle Chips on offer if you're a member of the cashback site Quidco. You'll have to buy the crisps first (for £1.50 in Tesco or Sainsbury's), then take a photo of the receipt, and upload it using the website or the app to get your money back. The deal officially runs out on Tuesday, but these tend to have a limited number available so if you fancy taking advantage, it's worth doing sooner rather than later

Free soft drinks
The users of HotUK Deals have highlighted that during the festive period you can get two drinks for the price of one when you buy a Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Life, Coca-Cola Zero, Diet Coke, or Schweppes. It's part of the 'designated driver' event, designed to help make up for being landed with the job of driving everyone home. There's an online map to help you find your nearest participating pub.

Free mulled cider
If you become a friend of Vintage Inns, you'll get a free mulled cider or hot drink - plus a voucher for a free bottle of Prosecco on your birthday (as long as four of you order a main meal). The hot drink comes with no strings attached, so you can pop in for your freebie without spending a penny.

Free Star Wars entertainment
The users of HotUKdeals.com have pointed out that large Tesco Stores are holding a Star Wars Weekend event this weekend. Kids can build their own free Lego starship, learn to wield a light sabre, and enter a competition for cinema tickets. If you have small fans who usually hate being dragged to the supermarket, it's a nice free way to make the process far less painful - and will save you having to bribe them with anything when you get there.
