Britain is still recovering from Storm Desmond, but there's more rain on the way - and even snow this weekend.

In fact, weather forecasters are already predicting that some parts of Scotland could see a White Christmas.

However, although it is still too early to tell for sure, it looks like there will be a temperature divide between North and South, and things could stay too mild for a White Christmas in the south of England.

Leon Brown, meteorologist at The Weather Channel, told Aol Travel: "There'll be more heavy rain this weekend, and again across the same flooded areas from north Wales to northern England. Not just rain, but there's also a snow risk too over high ground south Scotland, Northern Ireland and north England on Saturday evening.

"Beware if you're driving on Saturday afternoon and evening since there could be heavy snowfalls blocking higher routes with 20cm possible.

"It looks like a very cold and icy Sunday morning in Scotland, with temperatures as low as -7 to 8C. In contrast the south will stay mild this weekend.

"Next week not quite as wet, but showery early and a drier spell mid-week then bands of rain arriving again from the west. Temperatures above normal in the south and near or a little above in the north.

"The week running up to Christmas could be exceptionally wet again with a strong jet stream at times right across the UK and a series of Atlantic depressions tracking eastwards.

"The detail still very uncertain yet, but there is a chance of snow across northern Scotland for Christmas with a sharp temperature divide north to south in the run up to Christmas. The far north colder and the south mild, wet and windy."

Our last White Christmas was in 2010, so is it likely this year?

The Weather Channel's Kirsty McCabe said: "Now that we've had our first taste of winter weather, everyone is keen to know if we'll get a White Christmas this year?

"The bookies certainly think so, slashing their odds after snow flurries fell across the country on November 21st, with London even seeing a few flakes.

"While most of the UK's snow days happen between January and March, statistically the odds are pretty good for a White Christmas. Over the past 55 years, a snowflake has fallen on Christmas Day 38 times and that's all you need for an official White Christmas."

"However, the dominant weather pattern for December looks likely to continue as unsettled with weather systems coming off the Atlantic. That would keep the UK on the mild side and the chances of snow much lower. But just like the weekend of the 21 November, if the jet stream moves to allow colder Arctic air in then we could well get that all-important festive snowflake."
