A bus was evacuated and police were called after a passenger mistook an e-cigarette for a bomb.

The bus was on the A77 in East Renfrewshire, Scotland, when it was evacuated.

It turned out that the 'suspect' was actually cleaning the e-cigarette, reports the Metro.

Passenger Calum McGregor was the one who informed the bus driver. Speaking to STV, he said: "My partner and I became aware of a passenger behaving suspiciously with a device in his lap.

"I got up under the pretence of looking for the toilet and saw he appeared to be attaching pipe-cleaner wire to a large oblong battery.

"I alerted the driver of a possible bomb on board and asked him to quietly pull over and call the police."

The owner of the e-cigarette, musician Chris Barron, said: "I got off of the bus and proceeded to wait outside. We proceeded to stand outside for the next 45 minutes in the gale for wind and pouring rain.

"The police came and looked on the bus, me none the wiser. The officers then came out and asked me to step behind the bus. They asked me if I had any electronic devices at all which I replied 'yes' to.

"I showed them my unfired freshly cottoned vape. They laughed and shook their heads and told me I hadn't done anything wrong so not to worry about it and apologised."
