New Hampshire Officer Pays For Woman's Shoplifted Birthday Cake Ingredients

Last week an Americanpolice officer in New Hampshire, Michael Kotsonis, was called to investigate a theft from an area store.

When he arrived at the home of the suspect he found the merchandise in question: a cake mix, Crisco and 'a couple of things of frosting'.

The woman said she had stolen the ingredients because she couldn't afford them but wanted to make a birthday cake for her daughter.

Instead of arresting her, Kotsonis decided to do something far more positive. He took the items back to the store, paid the $8 tab and then took them back to the family in question,

According to the Portsmouth Herald, the officer noted that the although the woman's actions were not justifiable, this shouldn't mean that her kids have to pay.

Kotsonis has been in the police force for 19 years and told the Portsmouth Herald: "I'm not going to take away a kid's birthday cake, I ended up bringing it back to the mother."

Kotsonis received a fair amount of attention for his generosity - he says he and his fellow officers perform such acts of kindness all the time, they just don't usually talk about their good deeds.

He said: "We don't publicize it, we don't do stuff to brag about it. I don't need an article to know what's right and wrong."
