A teenager has died after being stabbed in a London park - the 15th youngster to be fatally stabbed in the capital this year.

The 17-year-old boy, was found by emergency services at around 11pm on Tuesday in Finsbury Park suffering from stab wounds. He was taken to a central London hospital where he later died.

Although a post-mortem examination has not yet taken place, it is believed he died of his injuries and a murder investigation has been launched.

His death marks the 15th time that a teenager has been stabbed to death in the capital this year, following the murder of 17-year-old Vasilaki Kakko in Holloway, north London, last week.

Last month, the families of some of those victims joined in central London to protest against knife crime and Metropolitan Police said they are doing everything they can to curb the issue.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Any young life lost is one too many and far too many families have been devastated by the impact of knife crime.

"We are committed to doing all we can to reduce knife crime, to tackle London's gangs and take more knives and weapons off our streets."

Anyone with information on the incident in Finsbury Park is urged to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
