Peter Andre becomes ninth celebrity to waltz off Strictly Come Dancing

Updated

Singer and TV star Peter Andre has become the ninth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing.

Andre and his partner Janette Manrara faced EastEnders' Kellie Bright and her partner Kevin Clifton in the dance-off.

The judges opted to save Bright, with Bruno Tonioli commenting: "They both gave a very powerful and very entertaining performance but based on the dance I saw the one that I thought has more content and was technically more accurate was Kellie and Kevin."

Judge Darcey Bussell chose Bright due to her "technically more assured performance and confidence."

Talking to host Tess Daly about his time on the show, Andre said "it's been nothing but joy", adding: "Like I said before, there is no shame in leaving, we are so grateful. I love everybody. Thank you."

At the start of the latest series, Andre was the bookies' early favourite to win the show.

He earned not one but two 10s for his Charleston a few weeks ago, which head judge Len Goodman said was "first class".

During Saturday night's show Andre and Manrara's American Smooth was given 31 points, putting them on the bottom of the leaderboard again.

He also failed to impress in the Quickstepathon, finishing in last place and picking up only one extra point, taking his total to 32.

Call The Midwife's Helen George is currently top of the leaderboard with 46 points, after scoring the maximum seven points for the Quickstepathon and impressing with her Viennese waltz.

Next weekend will see six couples competing in the quarter finals in a musicals-themed week.

:: Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday December 5 at 7pm on BBC One.
