Pregnant woman thrown on to car bonnet in Salford crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pregnant woman was thrown on to the bonnet of a car in a collision.

The 34-year-old woman, who is five months pregnant, suffered broken bones and requires surgery, but her unborn child was not harmed.

Police say she was crossing Bury New Road in Salford when she was in collision with a dark VW Polo or Golf.

The woman was carried on the bonnet of the car for a short distance before it stopped.

The driver got out and words were exchanged before he got back in the car and drove off.

The driver is described as white, tall, aged in his 20s or 30s and wore casual clothing.

Pc Mike Connolly, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "The woman is five months pregnant but thankfully the baby is okay.

"However, the victim suffered broken bones in her right arm and leg and will undergo surgery soon.

"I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or knows who the driver is to call police as soon as possible."
