Colin Furze, a 36-year-old inventor and former plumber, has built an astonishing underground man cave in his back garden in Stamford, Lincolnshire. The bunker is an unusual combination of being handy for escaping any nuclear attack, and a great place to party.

The Daily Mail reported that he spent two months building a bunker under the garden - which required enormous excavation. He built the metal shed in a huge pit, and covered it over with 60 cubic metres of concrete. The lawn grown over the top belies what lurks underground. He said that when building control came to inspect it, they didn't know what to make of it at all.

Colin built a shed over the entrance, so he can enter the unassuming shed, open a trap door and escape down a ladder to another world. The finished 'lair' has a kitchen, party area, games area, flat-screen TV, drum kit and even an 'ejector bed'.

There's a generator for electricity, plus an independent water supply, and an air supply system to bring good air in and take the bad air out. The toilet is a bit public - and is situated next to the sofa - but as Furze points out, privacy may not feel like such a priority after the apocalypse.

Colin told The Mirror it had always been a dream to build an underground lair. Perhaps it's no coincidence that his work has been completed just before his girlfriend Charlotte (27) gives birth to their second child.

The project was built in conjunction with Sky 1 to advertise its new show 'You Me and the Apocalypse' which is shown on Wednesdays at 9pm. He has put loads of videos of the construction on YouTube for anyone who fancies building a bunker/man cave of their own.

It's not the first unusual invention Colin has come up with. He is also the inventor of the world's fastest pram, a 70mph mobility scooter and vacuum-cleaner shoes. He said he was now dedicating his career to building the kinds of things that everyone would like to see.
