Charlie Sheen is reportedly selling two of his properties. Between them they could fetch more than $10 million. The move comes after Sheen admitted he had spent $10 million paying blackmail demands to friends and former sexual partners who threatened to reveal his HIV status.

Variety magazine reported that he is selling two houses on the same Beverly Hills estate - Mulholland Estates. It's a swanky development that's home to stars from Paris Hilton to Robbie Williams.

The properties are a five-bedroom Mediterranean-style villa he bought in 2012 (pictured) and a six-bedroom home he bought in 2011. The Sun reported that he collectively spent $7.76 million on the two homes - but the villa alone is listed at $7.2 million, so he could make more than $10 million.

Variety also said that Sheen will keep the third home he owns in the community - a property he bought for £4.73 million in 2006. It added that details were scant, and that the information had come from 'gossip'. Sheen has not confirmed the sales.

Sheen told the Today programme that his financial situation was "not great", given the huge cost of paying people not to reveal his secret. The property sales will certainly help on that front.

Celebrity homes for sale

Fortunately, if the idea of living in a celebrity property appeals, you don't need to go to LA to get your hands on a home with a famous former owner. There are a number of them on sale in the UK at the moment too.

These include a romantic eight-bedroom home in St John's Wood, where Jackie Collins lived in the late 1970s and 1980s. The property will set you back an impressive £11.5 million.

If that's a bit of a stretch, you could snap up a stunning Mews house near Hyde Park, which used to be home to Michael Caine. The £4.95 million home has come up in the world since Caine lived there in the 1960s. It's now twice the size - having being knocked through to next door - and sits in a private, gated mews in the heart of London.

And if you like your celebrity connections to be a bit more recent, there's always the property Ricky Gervais has put on the market in Hampstead. Here £7.75 million will buy you a four-bedroom house set behind gates in the heart of the village. Among the more unusual features are the basement swimming pool and golf drive - which the estate agent helpfully points out could be converted into a home cinema.

But what do you think? Do you fancy a celebrity property? Or would you rather something more understated - and on the right side of £1 million?
