You can forget all the controversy over Starbucks' festive red cups because there's an even bigger Christmas issue taking place in the USA.

A shopping centre in New Jersey tried to make people pay up to $75 (£49.37) to meet Father Christmas.%VIRTUAL-ArticleSidebar-Christmas%

The ensuing backlash online meant that the powers that be at the mall quickly had to change their policy.

The Cherry Hill Mall decided that those who wanted the chance to see Father Christmas would have to pay between $35 and $75 for the pleasure.

Instead of giving people the standard meeting with St Nick, the mall teamed up with Dreamworks for the Dreamplace Adventure to Santa Experience and you could only get in to meet the big man if you paid for one of the photo packages, plus you had to make your reservation in advance.

Apparently some people were perfectly happy to shell out $35 - $75 for the 15 minute, Shrek-filled experience, but there were also a lot of people who were very unhappy.

After countless negative Facebook posts and a whole lot of bad press, the Cherry Hill Mall released a statement going back on their decision and now you can see Father Christmas for free, you just have to pay for the photos if you want them and you still need a reservation.
