Woman, 79, robbed while visiting her husband's grave

A 79-year-old woman has been robbed for £15 from her purse as she visited her husband's grave.

The widow was at Petersfield Cemetery at 12.45pm on Sunday to place fresh flowers on her loved one's grave when a man approached her and asked for change.

But when the pensioner said that she did not have any, the attacker tried to grab her purse and hit her hand in bid to make her let go of it.

The woman managed to hold on to the purse although the thief did steal the cash before running off.

The elderly victim was left "very shaken" by the incident, according to Hampshire Police.

Detective Constable Simon Poulter said: "It's hard to believe someone would stoop so low as to rob someone as they were visiting their loved one's grave.

"I would also ask the man who did this to take a very long hard look at himself and to show some genuine remorse for what he has done by giving himself up. It will be much better for him than waiting for us to come and arrest him."
