Residents of a village in Jaipur, India, were thrown into panic on Sunday when a hungry two-year-old leopard was spotted on the loose in the area.

After prowling through the streets of the Milap Nagar district, the poor animal appeared to become terrified and raced through the mobs of people, sending them scattering in all directions.

Luckily an Indian Forest Department team was called out to help capture the animal and they went on a mission to find the animal, armed with tranquiliser guns.

The footage shows the local residents out in full force, hanging over balconies and out of windows to watch the Forest Department attempt to capture the wild and dangerous animal.

They managed to track the leopard down and tranquilise him from a distance, using the safety of high windows to shoot before moving in for the capture with the help of a large net.

Thankfully no one was injured in the ensuing chaos and the leopard was transferred safely to a local zoo for a medical examination, before it was released back into the wild.

Just last month a similar incident occurred in the Indian town of Amravati.

A young leopard terrorised locals and officers of the military, darting through the streets, scaling walls and even trying to enter people's home.

Eventually, the Indian Wildlife Department shot the big cat with tranquilizer darts and carted him off in a cage.
