A man has gone missing in a crocodile-infested remote part of the Northern Territory in Australia.

The man, aged 50, from Queensland, had been hunting in Arnhem Land in an area known as the Gurrumul floodplains when he disappeared.

His friend returned to camp after getting affected by the searing heat, but the other man didn't make it back.

A large land and air search has now been launched to find him, and kicked off at 10am local time on Friday.

Speaking to ABC News, Senior Sergeant John Worrall from NT Police at Nhulunbuy said: "There's a number of wildlife threats.

"You have buffalo in the area and being remote and close to waterways and the coast, you would have crocodiles."

He added: "We have got people searching on foot, on motorcycles, on quad bikes and in a helicopter."

Searchers will set off again on Sunday if the man is not found by night time on Saturday.
