Commuters and tourists got a shock on Thursday when they looked up and saw 'flying humans' soaring the skies across London landmarks.

The 'men' were seen swooping over iconic London landmarks such as the London Eye, Big Ben and Canary Wharf.

But before you get too excited that Superman has decided to visit us, the move was just a stunt from mobile phone network giffgaff.

The lifelike forms did fool a lot of people, including radio DJs.

According to the Mirror, one witness said: "I thought it was a bird, it was really weird, I thought it was like a really big bird, but then it was pink.

"And it sort of didn't have wings - it was in a long shape. It looked like a person."

The activity celebrates mobile network giffgaff's 'no-ties' approach to contracts and is timed to coincide with its recent ad campaign, entitled 'hey you', in which people are seen to inexplicably fly and float in the air, according to the PR Newswire.

It was meant to raise awareness of giffgaff's sentiment of 'we won't tie you down' - a statement referring to the company's shunning of mobile phone contracts for its customers.

And it made the dull morning commute that little bit more exciting.
