Green Fireball Seen Falling Across Bangkok Night Sky

This video shows the moment a green fireball - believed to be a meteor breaking up - shot across the sky above Bangkok, Thailand on Monday.

The Thai Astronomical Society said the shooting star could be identified as a "fireball" due to its brightness, reports ITV News.

The light was also seen in over five other parts of Thailand at around 8:35pm local time, The Bangkok Post reports.

"I could see it clearly in Chum Pphae district, Khon Kaen province. It's moving west," one witness tweeted to JS100, a local radio station.

The fireball was part of the annual Taurid meteor shower which is taking place this week.

Somsakdi Seubsai, who captured the video from the dashcam of his car, said: "Suddenly, the sky brightened and then I saw a green linear light shooting down."

The American Meteor Society suggests a meteor could appear green when burning up in the Earth's atmosphere if it contains a high amount of nickel or magnesium.

It's not the first meteor to be filmed in the city's skies in recent weeks. In September, this footage was taken of a meteor over Bangkok in daylight.
