The Hunger Games books may take you on a trip through your imagination, but the film franchise brought them to life.

Now, Lionsgate want to go one step further and fully immerse you in the story lines through a Hunger Gamestheme park.

The film production company has announced that they are licensing the popular franchise to become two theme parks, one in China and one near Atlanta.

Developer, Avatron Smart Parks, says the American theme park could open in 2019, but this all depends on funding.

It's been estimated that the new developments will cost in the region of $625 million, but don't worry Katniss fans because Lionsgate have reportedly told the New York Times that they're well on their way to raising the money.

The big question everyone's asking is, will the themes of the Hunger Games really fit in in a theme park?

But, investors have said they will focus on the positive messages portrayed in the Hunger Games storylines.

The dystopian world of the Hunger Games was created by American author Suzanne Collins who wrote the trilogy.

Both the novels and films have done well with teens and adults the world over and the series ranked only behind Harry Potter in NPR's 100 Best-Ever Teen Novels. The latest installment of the film franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 2, will be released in the UK on 20 November

In a press release, Avatron said: "We are pushing the thresholds of location-based entertainment storytelling like never before, thanks, in part, to our unique combination of experienced creative leadership and technology integration expertise. We look forward to sharing this game changing experience with future guests."
