David Cameron complains PMQs 'getting longer and longer'

David Cameron has been caught on microphone complaining about the increasing length of Prime Minister's Questions.

Commons Speaker John Bercow has been allowing the weekly sessions to run on significantly beyond the allotted 30 minutes.

He often scolds noisy hecklers for holding up proceedings, insisting he will not let them eat into the time for grilling the premier.

But Mr Cameron appears to be somewhat exasperated with the Speaker's approach.

Last week the PM noted that Tory backbencher Sir Simon Burns had been called for a question at 12.38pm.

After another session lasting nearly 40 minutes this lunchtime, the microphones in the chamber picked up Mr Cameron remarking to a colleague: "It's getting longer and longer."

Asked whether Mr Cameron would prefer his weekly questions session to be shorter, a Downing Street spokesman said: "The Prime Minister's view is that Prime Minister's Questions is an important forum where MPs can raise issues with him."
