Man Makes 'Bomb' Joke While Trying to Flirt, Grounds Flight

You would think people have learnt by now that saying the word 'bomb' on a plane is never a good idea, but there are still a few people around who seem to think joking about explosives is funny.

A man, named as Pichit Boondaeng, 23, was on a flight trying to leave from Bangkok took a liking to one of the flight attendants and decided to test out his flirting on her.

Despite the fact that everyone was on board and ready to leave, the captain cancelled the trip when the flight attendant told him someone had made a bomb joke.

Apparently it happened when she was trying to help the man put his hand luggage in the overhead bins. He allegedly said to her: "Be careful, there could be a bomb in that!"

All the passengers were forced to get off the plane while it was searched, thankfully nothing was found on board.

Lion Air is now suing the man in question and he is also facing several years of jail time and huge fines.

According to the Bangkok Post, Aswin Yangkirativorn, Lion Air CEO, said the joke had ended up costing the airline hundreds of thousands of Baht and the delay had affected hundreds of passengers.

Mr Pichit has since apologised for his mistake but is already facing a disciplinary investigation at work.

Mr Pichit will be the first person to be prosecuted under the new air navigation laws in the country. The charge he is facing could end in a maximum of five years in jail and a fine of 200,000 baht (£3,653).

He said: "I didn't know this law existed, due to my impetuousness, I just mocked her because I saw she was beautiful,"

Adding: "I want my case to be lesson learned so this kind of case will not happen again. I apologise to everyone for causing a problem. I repent and admit my guilt."
