Updated

Today was heartbreaking when we met this man who became homeless because of one small mistake. We put our money together and bought him food, water and a blanket to keep warm. We recorded this to show you what people can do if they put their hearts together! It really is the small things that make life count!

A group of teenagers have been praised on social media for spending their last £15 on helping a homeless man.

The three girls, all aged 13 from Hartlepool, had been out for dinner together and had the money left over after paying their bill.

Instead of splitting the money between them or heading to the local shops to buy themselves some snacks, Natasha Osborne, Danielle McCarthy and Chloe Parker decided to do a good deed.

They made their way to a local supermarket where they spent the remaining cash on food and a blanket for a local homeless man, Metro reports.

The girls filmed their evening and posted the video on Facebook in the hope of raising awareness of homelessness in their friendship group, however the video quickly spread and the girls were showered with praise for their kind actions.

The video has now had more than 50,000 views on the popular social networking site and according to the Mirror, Natasha said: "He said he couldn't thank us enough and he hoped karma would be good to us.

"We put it on Facebook to try to get more people to do stuff like that. It is amazing, we didn't think it would get this much attention."

Chloe explained how the man had also told the girls how he had ended up on the streets, saying: "He said he gave up his job and his home to come here to be with his girlfriend, but they had broken up and he was trying to get back to Ipswich."
