Halloween trick-or-treaters and rugby fans to enjoy mild weather

Updated

Rugby fans and those venturing out in fancy dress for Halloween can expect a mild, dry evening as temperatures remain above average for this time of year.

While last year's record of 23.6C (74.5F) is not likely to be beaten, those in the north-east of England and north Wales could see a high of 20C (68F).

Supporters at Twickenham look set to enjoy temperatures of around 15C (59F) as Australia take on New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham stadium in London.

Early rain this morning across northern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland will clear by lunchtime, but low cloud and fog is likely to linger across East Anglia and the south-east of England, the Met Office said.

"By late afternoon parts of the south-east should see sunnier spells, while Wales and the north-east of England will see the best of the sunshine," said forecaster Dean Hall.

"We are not likely to see (temperature) records being broken but it is going to be exceptionally mild for the end of October again."

Sheltered parts of the north-east of Scotland could see highs of 17C (62.6F) which is above the UK average of 14C (57.2F) for this time of year, he added.

There are dry conditions in store for rest of the weekend, giving those finishing their half-term holidays pleasant weather after days of heavy rain.

Low cloud and and slow-to-clear fog on Sunday could affect some flights as people return from breaks away, Mr Hall warned.

It will be fine and dry for the early part of the week, before wet weather returns.

"There is a hint of a change coming from the south late on Tuesday into Wednesday," said Mr Hall.

"Low pressure could bring some showers across the UK but it will still be mild for the time of year."
