Nightclub frequented by William and Harry closed after brawl

A London nightclub frequented by Princes William and Harry was shut down for almost a fortnight after an ugly row involving up to 20 people.

The licence of Boujis nightclub in Kensington has been suspended by Kensington and Chelsea Council.

The licensing committee's decision on Thursday came after a brawl over the weekend which spilled out onto the street.

Seven people were arrested when police were called to the venue just before 2am, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

During the chaos, an 18-year-old man was thrown head-first into a car, denting the vehicle.

"The victim refused medical attention and only gave officers a brief statement before leaving the scene," police said.

The seven people arrested - six men and one woman - were aged between 18 and 21.

They were issued with fixed penalty notices.

Video footage of the incident shows women screaming as a cluster of young men trade punches.

A Kensington and Chelsea Council spokesman said: "It's closed until the 9th Nov and then it's open again, on slightly reduced hours"

He added: "As far as I'm aware, it was the police asking for it."

The committee will meet again at the end of November to review its decision, at which point the license could be cancelled.

From November 9, the club's restrictions dictate it must close at 2am and must not allow guests under the age of 21 into the premises.

Kensington and Chelsea Inspector Eddie Armstrong said: "The safety of the public is our priority.

"Police licensing officers are pro-active in working with licensed premises to help reduce crime and disorder.

"Where necessary we will take enforcement action."

During the committee hearing, Kensington licensing officers pointed out there have been a number of serious incidents at the venue within the last 12 months.

They included assaults on both male and female guests inside and outside the club, and guests lashing out after being kicked out by security.

Three men were also charged with affray and actual bodily harm after a fight outside Boujis on October 19.
