Exclusive London club Boujis shut down after mass brawl

A London nightclub frequented by Princes William and Harry has been shut down for almost a fortnight after a row involving up to 20 people, police said.

The licence of Boujis nightclub in Kensington has been altered by Kensington and Chelsea Council.

The licensing committee's decision on Thursday came after a brawl over the weekend which spilled out onto the street.

Seven people were arrested when police were called to the venue just before 2am on Sunday, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

During the incident, an 18-year-old man was thrown head-first into a car, denting the vehicle.

"The victim refused medical attention and only gave officers a brief statement before leaving the scene," police said.

The seven people arrested - six men and one woman - were aged between 18 and 21.

They were issued with fixed penalty notices.

A Kensington and Chelsea Council spokesman said: "It's closed until November 9 and then it's open again, on slightly reduced hours."

The committee will meet again at the end of November to review its decision.

A spokeswoman for Boujis said the club was appalled by the actions of a "select group of young adults" who were fighting outside the venue.

She said: "As a result of this incident, and in consultation with the police and the council, we offered to close our doors for 10 days to enable us to implement some new measures to try and prevent incidents like this occurring in the future.

"Yesterday, our proposals were agreed and accepted by the police and the councillors and we look forward to working with them in the future and reopening our doors on November 10 2015."

From then, the club's restrictions dictate it must close at 2am and must not allow guests under the age of 21 into the premises.

Kensington and Chelsea Inspector Eddie Armstrong said: "The safety of the public is our priority.

"Police licensing officers are proactive in working with licensed premises to help reduce crime and disorder.

"Where necessary, we will take enforcement action."

During the committee hearing, Kensington licensing officers pointed out there have been a number of serious incidents at the venue within the last 12 months, Scotland Yard said.

They included assaults on both male and female guests inside and outside the club, and guests lashing out after being kicked out by security.

Three men were also charged with affray and actual bodily harm after a fight outside Boujis on October 19.
