Mother warned of jail over alleged bid to take children to Syria
A 34-year-old woman has been warned she faces jail after she appeared in court accused of trying to take two of her children to Syria.
The mother, from Bradford, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with two counts of abducting children under 16.
She appeared at Leeds Crown Court today via videolink from prison.
No formal pleas were entered but she confirmed she will be pleading guilty to the charges at the next hearing and a sentencing date was fixed for November 17.
The woman is charged under the Child Abduction Act 1984 with taking two children out of the UK at Heathrow Airport on October 10.
She is understood to have left the UK with the two children and was arrested on her return.
Judge Sally Cahill QC said: "These are extremely serious offences and you are facing a custodial sentence".
The defendant appeared on screen sitting behind a desk for the five minute hearing.
Judge Cahill ordered pre-sentence reports to be prepared and remanded the woman in custody.
