First drive: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Updated

Mitsubishi

Car manufacturers are fond of describing their latest offerings as 'game changers'. Most of the time, it's just marketing nonsense, but Mitsubishi really did do something rather special when they launched a hybrid version of their Outlander SUV around 18 months ago. They've just unveiled an updated version of the car – and as it's such a clean, green vehicle, its arrival couldn't be better timed, if you know what we mean...

What is it?

Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV is the UK's best-selling plug-in car. A five-seater SUV with very low emissions and incredible mpg figures under the right circumstances, it's derived from the third generation of manufacturer's Outlander series. The car first hit UK roads about 18 months ago and was a major success.

Even Boris Johnson noticed how many were pounding the streets of London and as a result, was asked to unveil the new car, which has undergone improvement work in several areas. It looks noticeably sharper on the outside; is more refined and comfortable once you're in the vehicle; and is much quieter for driver and passengers alike, as well as delivering a super-smooth ride. A comprehensive audit has taken place to reduce the levels of noise and vibration in the cabin.
