Drunk man forgets he booked trip to Brazil - then has holiday of a lifetime

That moment when you wake up and realise you booked flights to Brazil last night - but have no memory of actually doing it.

A bank worker from Glasgow, Jamie Athers, 24, had a particularly wild night out on the town in August and, when he got home, decided to book himself the holiday of a lifetime.

But the next day he had no recollection of doing it.

He only realised that he'd bought £520 return flights when he received an email from a travel company confirming them.

Speaking in the Mirror, he said: "It showed I had booked a flight from Glasgow to Rio de Janeiro on my debit card at 5.12am.

"I had absolutely no memory of doing it because I was drunk, and it had honestly never even crossed my mind to go to South America."

Jamie said he could not get a refund because there was only a 24-hour cancellation policy. He had booked on a Saturday night in August, and had not called the company until the Monday morning.

So he decided to go - and ended up having the time of his life on the dream holiday.

Jamie kept everyone up to date with his travels on his Instagram page, with pictures showing him cuddling sloths, and taking selfies at the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro and hiking the Inca trail to Machu Picchu in Peru.

He said: "I had never been away on my own on a trip like that, so I was really nervous about setting off, but I ended up having one of the best experiences of my life.

"I spent time at a sloth sanctuary in Bahia in north-east Brazil, I hiked to Machu Picchu in Peru and I chilled out with cocktails on Copacabana beach in Rio."

Jamie said getting to meet the sloths was a highlight of the trip, and we love his video of time spent with them:

He told the Metro: "Everyone who knows me knows that I was so nervous about going to South America on my own, so it has given me loads of confidence to have gone and actually had an amazing time.

"It has really made me realise that you just need to take risks sometimes and get over your fear if you want to get the most from life."
