This beautiful drone footage of a baby whale appearing to be 'dancing' for joy in the calm waters off Australia's Gold Coast is truly life-affirming.

During the whale migration in Australia, whale watchers have a greater chance to see whales on the shores of these renowned spots for whale watching tours in Australia and in the Gold Coast, and watching the migration has become one of the most popular tourist attractions.

But this video shows the beautiful mammals from a completely different angle, following the baby for several miles as it frolics in the water.

There are more than 80 species of whales around the world, and each has their own movement patterns, many of which are not yet fully understood. In general, whales migrate toward the colder poles in the summer and toward the more tropical waters of the equator in the winter. This pattern allows whales to take advantage of the productive feeding grounds in colder waters in the summer, and then when productivity lowers, to migrate to warmer waters and give birth to calves.

On average a female whale will bare a single offspring once every 1 – 6 years while she is fertile.

In rare cases a female whale may bare twins, but this is very uncommon and rarely seen among the whale population.

For the first several months after birth the baby whale feeds by suckling from their mothers.

While the average age of maturity varies from species to species most whales will mature between the ages of five and 15 at which point they can then begin mating and bearing offspring of their own.
