Man charged with preventing lawful burial of body found in canal
A man has been charged with preventing lawful burial after the body of an Italian carpenter was found in a canal.
Paul Williams, 61, of no fixed abode was charged this evening and will appear in custody at Highbury Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Scotland Yard said.
The tattooed body of Sebastiano Magnanini, 46, originally from Venice, was found submerged near a tunnel in the Regent's Canal in north London on September 24, shortly after 9am.
Mr Magnanini, who was 6ft 1in and of medium build, had been tied to a shopping trolley.
He had been living and working in south London, and was last seen by colleagues when he left work in south-west London two days earlier.
A post-mortem examination was carried out but the cause of death could not be determined. Further toxicology tests have been ordered.
Mr Magnanini's family in Venice have been informed of his death.
A 22-year-old man remains in custody.
