Great British Bake Off finalists knead to know this year's winner

Updated

The winner of this year's Great British Bake Off is set to be crowned.

Nadiya Jamir Hussain, Ian Cumming and Tamal Ray have seen off nine other contestants to make it through to the final round of the sixth series of the show.

Nadiya has been consistently strong throughout, earning the title of Star Baker three times.

The stay-at-home mum, 30, from Leeds, has impressed judges with her attention to detail and mastery of flavours, attracting praise for her chocolate peacock showstopper, and her fizzy pop cheesecake which featured a levitating can of pop.

Her chocolate tart also earned her a congratulatory handshake from judge Paul Hollywood in the semi-final.

She has had more of a mixed record in the technical challenge, lingering towards the bottom for the first four weeks but later racking up three wins.

Nadiya is backed by Prime Minister David Cameron, who has said he is rooting for her to win. Fans have enjoyed her sense of humour and her expressive face as she joked around with show hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.

Like Nadiya, Ian has been Star Baker three times, with a streak of consecutive wins at the beginning of the series.

He has a reputation for being very good on flavour combinations, such as the apple and tarragon cheesecakes in week four which Hollywood described as "sheer heaven".

The 41-year-old travel photographer likes to use home-grown ingredients, including eggs from his own guinea fowl. He has won the technical challenge just once.

Tamal has been a Star Baker once, in episode seven's Victorian Week when his Middle Eastern game pie earned him the Hollywood handshake. He has never won the technical challenge, usually coming in the middle of the pack.

The medic, 28, has taken a humorous approach to the competition. Of co-judges Hollywood and Mary Berry, he once observed: "I feel like we're a herd of gazelles that's being picked off one-by-one by lions. Mary and Paul are the lions and they're hungry for bakers."

The Great British Bake Off final airs tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
