Uh-oh. A driver who seemed to think he could beat the system has been hit with a huge fine after clocking up more than 1,600 tickets.

The situation unfolded in Kuwait where the driver apparently thought having licence plates from another Gulf country would help him avoid the law.

The driver racked up 1,645 different driving violations while travelling on plates registered in a different (and unnamed) Gulf country, the state-run Kuwait News Agency said.

We don't know what the tickets were for but countries throughout the Gulf use cameras to enforce speed limits and traffic laws.

The driver now faces fines totalling more than 190,000 US dollars (£125,119) after being caught, KUNA said.

The driver has not been identified. Officials are also using the story to remind drivers they have one month's grace period to change their licence plates to Kuwaiti ones on foreign-bought cars.
