People living in one New Jersey town aren't at all fazed by a bear walking around the neighbourhood on its two back legs.

Sadly, the reason the bear walks in this way is because he is suffering from serious injuries to his front legs that cause him to walk on two paws. One of the paws is missing entirely while the one other one dangles useless.

Residents have named the black bear 'Pedals', from the word 'bipedal', meaning he walks on two legs.

This video was shot last summer and Pedals can be seen taking a look inside a rubbish bin for food before quickly moving on, clearly not impressed with the contents!

The residents have even set up a Facebook page called 'Help Save Pedals' and they are trying to persuade officials to try and catch Pedals so they can treat his injuries.

"It broke my heart seeing him in person" said Sabrina Pugsley, who has also made films of the bear walking around her back garden.

She added: "I found a sanctuary this morning, about an hour from here, that will take him. They want to build a full enclosure for him where he can spend the rest of his days."

David Mizejewski of the National Wildlife Federation wasn't surprised to hear that Pedals had adapted to his unfortunate situation so well.

He said: "Black bears are incredibly adaptable animals, as this particular bear has demonstrated. The will to survive is really strong."
