A lost and dehydrated chicken was so thirsty it was found drinking out of a toilet in a London casino.

RSPCA inspectors were called in to rescue the hen after it was found at the 24-hour gaming shop called Cashinos in London Road on Wednesday 16 September.

Inspectors believe she had been fending for herself for a while and may have been dumped.

The hen, dubbed Armitage after the loo she was found in, is being nursed back to heath as she was very under weight.

According to the Evening Standard and ITV News, RSPCA inspector Lynn Marshall said: "This chicken was clearly in need of a bit of luck so managed to make her way to a casino.

"She was in such a terrible state. She'd clearly had to fend for herself for quite a while.

"It is difficult to know for sure where she may have come from. She may have escaped from a home and ended up straying but the area where she was found is pretty built-up - an unlikely spot to keep a pet chicken.

"It is also possible of course that someone may have dumped her there.

"What we do know is that she was very poorly. She was extremely dehydrated - which had caused her to go down a toilet and try to drink from the water there. She was then so weak that she didn't have the power to fly out.

"We have called her Armitage - after the toilet where she was found."

Anyone interested in rehoming Armitage should contact the centre where she is being cared for on 01959 573317.
