Kelly Brook is the most dangerous celebrity on the internet - followed by Katie Price. The revelation comes from cyber security experts, who have analysed the Google searches that are most likely to lead you to malicious websites and links. They found that a search for Kelly Brook was most likely to lead you into a virus trap.

McAfee, the security firm behind the research, placed Katie Price second, Nick Grimshaw third, Rita Ora fourth and Victoria Beckham fifth.

It added that would-be hackers know that people will be on the hunt for news, pictures and videos of their favourite celebrities, so may add words such as 'picture' 'video' or 'naked' to the end of the link, in order to draw in as many victims as possible.

It's an interesting insight into the celebrities that hackers feel will be the most desirable on the web. Kelly Brook was in the news earlier this year for intimate private photos that were leaked online, and the hackers seem convinced that people would be searching for them.

It also tells us something about what the hackers think of the people searching for these celebrities. Brook has replaced Cheryl Fernandez-Versini at the top of the chart - McAffee pointed out that this may be because hackers thought her married name might be a bit tricky for people to spell.

The top ten
1. Kelly Brook
2. Katie Price
3. Nick Grimshaw
4. Rita Ora
5. Victoria Beckham
6. Kate Middleton
7. Idris Elba
8. Frank Lampard
9. Jeremy Clarkson
10. Tom Hardy

This year, the study revealed an interesting development in the celebrity names being targeted by hackers. In the past women have dominated the list, on the assumption that many of the users are men looking for photos. Now, however, the top ten is equally split between men and women, as both genders use the web to search for news. It means you can no longer protect yourself by resisting the temptation to go hunting for photographs.

Protect yourself

As a result, you have to take steps to protect yourself. Cyber experts recommend that when you search for celebrity news, you should do so on a news site you know and trust, rather than linking to the first thing that pops up in a Google search - this is particularly the case when you are searching for a download - which you may be better off getting from an established site.

If you are prompted to download something before being able to watch it, then you should be particularly wary, and if you are asked to input any personal details in order to access content, this should set the alarm bells ringing.

Finally, you should always make sure you have up-to-date security software installed on all your devices, and make sure these are updated regularly to protect from new threats. These should help block malicious viruses if you accidentally click on them.
