Couples Review Each Other's Credit Card Statements

Money issues can often cause tension in relationships, whether or not you choose to share your cash with your partner.

Helen and Ryan decided to take part in an experiment where they reviewed each others credit card statements.

The couple have been together for three years but don't share a bank account, preferring to keep their money separate.

While Ryan works at Buzzfeed, Helen is an accountant by trade - presumably meaning she should be better with her money!

Here we have the chance to watch them take a look through each other's finances, with a few surprises!

The couple were initially interviewed separately about their spending habits, before they got the chance to take a look at their partners accounts.

When asked what makes someone good with money Helen said: "Someone that's good with money would be someone that keeps track of everything that they spend and they have a budget for themselves and they stay within the budget."

Ryan said: "I do not think that I'm good with money. I think that she's going to be vastly superior to me in this contest."

When looking at Ryan's statement, there were a few surprises, mainly the frequency of his visits to popular US food chain, Chipotle. One of the writer's major spends was $75.60 for a San Diego Chargers shirt.

Looking at the statement also revealed that Ryan spent almost $100 at Chipotle over a three month period.

The main surprise on Helen's statement was her $100 gym membership that she awkwardly revealed she never actually uses.

Another major spend was to a clothing brand, although Ryan was so shocked by the amount Helen had shelled out he didn't want to reveal it to the camera.

Reviewing the experience Ryan said: "I want to say it was surprising but it really wasn't. I feel like we were very accurate in our guesses with each other which really means that we're maybe a solid couple."

Helen said: "I think he's okay with money, we both could be better but I don't think he's bad."
