A 48-year-old man fromWimbledon has been sentenced to four months imprisonment suspended for 24 months after he exposed himself on board a train.


Mark Thompson, of Bushey Road, Wimbledon, was sentenced at City of London Magistrate's Court following an investigation by British Transport Police officers.

He was also told he was not allowed to travel on trains wearing shorts or anything that exposes bare skin below the knee.

Thompson was arrested after he exposed himself on Saturday, 18 April on board a train from Epsom to London Victoria.

The court heard how four women also boarded the train at Epsom and sat around a table in a set of four seats. During the journey the women noticed that Thompson was sat across the aisle from them in an aisle seat. He at with a bag on his lap and was wearing shorts that allowed him to expose himself.

Thompson was identified from CCTV and arrested on 21 July.

Detective Constable Andrew Parkinson said: "Thompson made the journey for these women extremely uncomfortable. I am pleased that they reported this incident to us as we take all reports of inappropriate sexual incidents seriously and will investigate them.

"I would like to commend the women in this case for telling us about this incident, and encourage others to follow their example.

"In this case we were able to utilise CCTV to help us find the person responsible.

"The message is clear: unwanted sexual behaviour is not acceptable. If you commit an offence, we will do everything in our power to bring you to justice."

Thompson was sentenced on Tuesday, 22, September to the following: four months imprisonment suspended for 24 months; to participate in a Sex Offenders Programme for 40 days; to be placed on a Sexual Harm Prevention Order; not to travel on public transport unless using an oyster card or touch card; not to travel in shorts or anything that exposes bare skin below the knee; to register with Wimbledon Police Station for seven years; and to pay courts costs of £85.
